Class 10 English Chapter 1 A Letter to God Summary
The story “A Letter to God” by G.L. Fuentes despicts unwavering faith of a farmer in God. It begins with a farmer named Lencho expecting for a rain as it was much needed for a good harvest. However, a hailstorm came and destroyed his harvest completely, Lencho was filled with grief after the hailstorm stopped as everything was ruined and there was nothing that he could feed his family. He had a strong belief in God. He was cerain that God would help him. Thus, he writes a letter to God asking him to send him one hundred pesos.
He went to the post office and put his letter into the post box. The postman showed the letter to the postmaster who read the letter and decided to help him in terms of money. He asked the employees of the post office to give charity. However, they were able to collect only seventy pesos. The postmaster put the money an envelope and sent to Lencho.
On Sunday, the postmaster took out the letter and handed it to Lencho. He became angry on God when he counted the money. He wrote one more letter to God complaining that he had received only seventy pesos. Also, he requested God to send him the rest of the money. He asked God not to send the money through the mail as the post office employees might have stolen the money. Through this lesson, we learnt that faith has power to give us what we want.
