Class 12 English Chapter 8 Going Places Summary
The story revolves around the life of Sophie, a teenager, who is filled with fantasis and desires. She dreams of owning a boutique one day or being an actress or fashion designer but her friend Jansie, her friend and schoolmate believes that both of them were earmarked to work for the biscuit factory. Jansie who is more realistic, tries to make Sophie see reality, but in vain. Sophie lives in a small house with her parents and brothers elder brother Geoff and little Derek.
The centre of this story is that Sophie fantasises about Danny Casey, an Irish football players. She makes up a story about how she met him in the streets. On Saturdays, Sophie and her family made their weekly visit to watch the football match. Sophie herself began to believe that it’s true. She waits for the Irish player at but he never comes.
The whole story is about unrealistic dreams and how we love to indulge in them knowing all that they have little possibility of coming true. The story seems to hint at dreaming within limits.
